IT workers are in high demand, with software developers accounting for over 30 percent of IT job openings, according to a recently-released report by BATEC, which stands for “Broadening Advanced Technological Education Connections,” and is headquartered at the University of Massachusetts Boston. IT jobs pay, on average, an annual salary of about $82,600 but are consistently hard to fill across all cities, according to the report.
Companies in Massachusetts are on the hunt for experienced, talented and creative designers to make websites and apps look as sleek and beautiful as possible, said Joseph Ward, team lead of recruiting at Mondo’s Boston office.
“A lot of companies are moving toward the creative side,” Ward said in an interview.
That’s a big shift from about five years ago, when the top IT jobs were all on the technical and back-end Web development side, he said.
Mondo, founded in 2000, sources its information on job titles that are in high demand from consultants and databases.
The number of IT job postings is in the millions nationwide. In 2014, there were 2 million online job postings for IT professionals and the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that by 2022, IT-related employment will have grown 18 percent from its 2012 baseline, and 66 percent faster than employment overall, according to the BATEC report.
Below are the top five IT job titles, and their salaries, that will be in high demand in Boston in 2016, according to Mondo.
