Why business culture is important

We live in a society where we want to be part of something bigger; we want to feel like we’re part of a team.

When you are out of town and you see someone wearing a jersey from your favorite sports team, you sense an instant connection. You’re unified and part of something bigger than yourself.

The feeling of unity is one reason why creating a company culture is an important aspect of your business.

Unity positively impacts the company by solidifying values and goals among employees, and also increases company morale.

Having a defined company culture gives your team something to be excited about. It comprises the beliefs and behaviors that influence how employees and leadership interact with one another and how they handle business transactions. It embodies the core values of your company that each team member emulates.

Culture

We want to create a culture where we can celebrate our successes, where people look forward to coming to work every day and don’t want to leave at night. We are a high-energy, fast-growth, innovative, fun company that’s a great place to work, and we want other people to notice.

Overall, we describe our culture as “ a little more Jimmy Buffet than Warren Buffet” — we have fun while ensuring work gets done.

Outsiders recognize our company through our:

High energy — Our team is high-energy. We get excited and we celebrate our successes. We want to do it big and do it right and add a special It Works! boomto the mix.

Part of our high energy comes from the excitement we provide our team each day, not just on special days. For example, we started the high-five at 3:05, where, as the name describes, team members exchange high-fives at 3:05 p.m. Other businesses learned of and liked this idea and have since added the practice to their own daily routines.

Positivity — Positivity needs to be part of every company’s culture. Our company is about encouragement and maintaining a positive mental attitude. I believe you have to fight every day to have a positive attitude —you must surround yourself with positive people, and positivity is a large part of our culture.

Adventure — We want to ensure every day’s an adventure for our team. It was an adventure when we moved our company from cold Michigan to the sunny shores of Florida. To add to the adventure, at our headquarters, we installed a slide that goes from the second floor to our lobby.

We also encourage our employees to drive their boats to work. Work doesn’t have to be strictly business; ensuring friendship, fun and freedom is a key part of our company’s culture.

Colors — Our colors are black, green and bling. Having company colors unifies corporate employees and the sales team. It connects us with our “one team, one mission” motto: When our team members see someone wearing black, green and bling, they know they have a connection and they feel unified.

Even our headquarters building is decorated in black and green. We want people to know they are at It Works!

It’s important

Culture is vital to your organization because it shapes your corporate identity and therefore your growth, paving the way for success and a lasting legacy. If you can see that you’re making a positive impact within your team and in your community, then you know it is working.

When you have a foundation built on your unique culture, you can build on your team’s will to move forward and achieve your company’s goals.

Our unique culture allows us to recruit, build and retain a first-class team. Having the proper momentum, culture and teamwork create the opportunities to build your legacy and reach the goals on your dream board.
