Another day, another 62 jobs gained in Boston.

That’s the pace of private-sector job creation in the city over the past decade, qualifying the Greater Boston area as the eighth fastest-expanding job market in the country since 2006, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Boston’s rank was part of a nationwide analysis by American City Business Journals to identify the fastest growing — and most rapidly contracting — job markets in the country. The project tallied net private-sector job growth in 106 major U.S. metros between September 2006 and September 2016.

Three areas added what amounts to more than 100 private-sector jobs per day during the 10-year period analyzed. After New York, the next two fastest-expanding job markets were in Texas: Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston, which added 152 jobs per day and 127 jobs per day, respectively, according to BLS data.

Within the top quartile of job gainers, four markets were based in Texas and three were in California — the strongest representations among all U.S. states. In the bottom quartile, Ohio had the biggest showing, with five metros in the state falling in that grouping, including four that reported net losses over the measured time period.

All told, fourteen of the 106 metros analyzed had fewer private-sector positions over the 10-year span. Ranking at the bottom of the list was Cleveland, with 4.24 fewer jobs per day, according to the data.
