Prepare for a lot more bikes in the city of Boston and surrounding towns.
Mayor Martin J. Walsh on Thursday announced the largest single expansion of the public bike-share system known as Hubway since it launched in Boston in 2011.
Over the next two years, more than 70 new bike stations will be added to the 127 stations currently in existence in Boston, more than a 55 percent increase in bike stations located across the city of Boston. The expansion comes after the Boston Transportation Department negotiated a new long-term contract with Motivate International to operate the publicly owned Hubway system.T
The system expanded to multiple locations in East Boston, Roxbury and northern Dorchester last year.
