Are you a current student interested in startups? The Startup Fair is for all levels of interest, from freshman to graduating seniors. Whether you’re a Rails wizard, or just stumbled upon your first Paul Graham post, we’d love to have you at the fair.
If you’re interested in potential internship or job opportunities at startups, please bring copies of your resume to distribute. We’ll have some amazing companies attending, and they’re eager to meet students! Many attendees will also be BU alumni who currently work at these startups.
Spots are limited, so register for your ticket now to guarantee your spot at the Startup Fair.
Four reasons why you should attend the BU Startup Fair:
1) Meet awesome startup companies at all stages. Whatever your interests are, there are a range of startup companies coming to our event. From small companies of four employees, to companies with over 400, we’ll have something for everyone at the Startup Fair.
2) Meet awesome Boston students. We’ll have students of all majors, ages, universities, and skill levels at the Startup Fair. The best way to meet other students interested in startups and technology is by hanging out with them. Want to work on a weekend hack? Learn a new programming language? Practice your design skills? Your peers can help, and can learn from you too.
3) Find a job or internship. All companies attending the Startup Fair are hiring for internships or full-time roles, and want to talk with you. Even if you’re not actively looking for a gig, it’s great to network with these teams. The best time to find a job is when you’re not looking. Companies you meet at this event could lead to opportunities down the road.
4) Practice your networking and interviewing skills. No one has ever complained about learning too much.. Talking with other students and attendees will give you practice in marketing your skills, justifying why a company should hire you, or asking good questions.
What should you do before the event?
Research companies that are attending the Startup Fair. Who are you interested in meeting, and why? What about the company appeals to you? Why would you want to work there?
Know your skill set. What are your strengths that a company might want as an intern or an employee? What do you want to learn? Do you love a specific type of marketing, such as content marketing or retention marketing? Do you want to design beautiful websites with your Javascript and HTML skills, or prefer querying a database with your analytical insight? These are all things companies want to know about.
Spruce up your resume and website. Create a LinkedIn, and add relevant work experience. If you don’t have a website, check out Flavors.me or Squarespace, two of our favorite website tools. BU has great resources for building resumes and cover letters, check out the resume and cover letters page here: http://www.bu.edu/careers/resumes-cover-letters/.
Tell your friends! We’re on Facebook and Twitter, use the hashtag #BUStartupFair and spread the love.
