Ten technology companies including Wayfair, Raytheon and Amazon have more than 1,700 job openings currently in Greater Boston, according to a Boston Business Journal review of company websites and job postings on other sites.
The companies are on growth tears in the Bay State, looking to scoop up talented software and mechanical engineers as well as sales and marketing experts.
Waltham defense contractor Raytheon (NYSE: RTN), for example, has 340 job openings listed on its website for locations including Waltham, Andover and Cambridge. Boston-based Wayfair (NYSE: W) is hiring 260 people in Boston after a yearlong surge in sales of home furnishings online.
Software developers are in high demand across many of the 10 technology companies looking to bolster their headcounts. And in Boston, it pays to be a software developer. They earn an average annual salary of $95,047, higher than any other tech hub in the country, according to the 2016 Tech Salary Reportpublished earlier this month by job search firm Indeed.
The position is the only tech role where a city in the northeastern U.S. places first, according to Indeed. Boston outpays New York City, where software developers earn an average salary of $88,581, and San Francisco, where they earn $81,502.
