Mass Innovation opens new shared labs in Kendall Square

Mass Innovation Labs has taken the wraps off a brand new shared lab space in Cambridge. It’s the second shared biotech space in the area, joining Tech Square’s LabCentral, which opened in the summer last year.

Mass Innovation Labs occupies 124,000 square feet of bench-top and office space over three stories in a building that’s tucked into the heart of Kendall Square, neighboring established pharmaceutical companies like Genzyme and Alnylam.

While LabCentral seeks to rent space to early stage life sciences startups, Mass Innovation Labs will also rent to international pharmaceutical giants who want a presence in Kendall Square, chief executive Amrit Chaudhuri previously told BetaBoston.

CRISPR Therapeutics, a firm with offices in London, Basel, Switzerland and Cambridge, is the first tenant. Charles River Laboratories is among the group’s partners at launch.
